制御機器の総合大手メーカーであるオムロン株式会社(以下、オムロンと略称)の中国事業の発展について、2000 年以降の上海における経営現地化の動向を中心に明らかにしようとするものである。オムロンは1991 年に大連で子会社を設立して以来、中国事業を本格的に展開した。2000年以降、同社は中国事業を強化しており、その背景には、中国を含めた経済のグローバル化の進展がある。しかし、中国において、日系企業は既に人件費上昇、為替リスク、激しい市場競争などの課題に直面している。このため、企業にとって国際競争力のあるものづくりを強化することが市場競争を勝ち抜くためのカギとなる。即ち、企業はコア技術、製品品質、および人的資源を強化し、コスト競争力を高めなければならないのである。同社は国際競争力のあるものづくりの実現を最大の課題とし、品質管理と教育訓練の強化を通して、中国拠点でのコア技術の活用を促進し、コスト競争力の向上を図っている。とりわけ、上海において企業経営のイノベーションを起こし、SCM
